The Commission advocated for the inclusion of the terms "gender identity or expression" to the University employment non-discrimination policy, as well as working with Human Resources to ensure inclusive language is used in new employee on-boarding and training.

Southern New Hampshire University shall not discriminate against any individual or group because of race, color, creed, ethnicity, sex, religion, national origin, citizenship, marital or parental status, disability, age, gender, gender identity or

expression, sexual orientation, pregnancy, veteran/military status, genetic information, or on any other legally prohibited basis.

The Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination Policy was added to all course syllabi in 2017.  This policy, stated below, indicates the rights of students to have instructors use preferred names and pronouns, as well as establishing a culture of respect in the classroom.

Southern New Hampshire University values and promotes social diversity, inclusivity, and social justice.  In order to provide an inclusive, respectful, and constructive educational environment, all members of the SNHU community will:

  • Respect the varied histories, identities, ideas, and experiences of all people.
